ABHYASA – Chaturthi

Talapravaham
Talapravahams are unique, first-of- its-kind compositions by Fiddling Monk. These compositions are based on the ‘Sapta Sooladi Talas’, which are the 7 basic rhythmic cycles that exist in Carnatic Music. There are five variations (jathis) for each of these talas, adding up to a total of 35 basic Talas. In this course students will be learning the first set of Talapravahams in “Ata Talam” - one of the Sapta Sooladhi Talams. The course comprises 5 lilting melodies composed in the 5 different jathis of Ata talam and 5 different Ragams. Discover the magical intersection of mathematics and music as exquisite melodies unfold, showcasing the harmony between numbers and notes.
Melakarta Melodies
This is a unique course composed by Fiddling Monk. In this course, the student gets to learn about Melakarta Ragas. In this particular course you are going to learn "Indu & Ruthu Chakras" through lilting melodies composed by Fiddling Monk in different ragams of the two chakras. VARNAMS (Basic) – C1
In this course, the student gets to learn one of the most prominent and dynamic form of Compostions - Varnams. We are getting introduced to two very important components of Carnatic Music in this course. One is the sound and another is a form. Gamaka is an intrinsic sound and character of Carnatic Music. We are going to extensively look in to how to play the gamaka. The techniques of using the wrist, the fingers, the forehand - all the different ways in which the gamaka is played on the instrument. The trigger Swara and the boundaries within which the gamaka is played. Ragams covered in Prathama are Mayamalavagowla and Hamsadhwani. KRITHIS (Basic) – C1
Krithis are the most important & popular compositional structures in Carnatic Music. Kritis, with their distinct structure of Pallavi, Anupallavi, and Charanam are at the heart of this course.
